Love, loss, stress, doubt, fear, peace, and joy: Like the rings of a tree, emotions and insights form the layers of a life. Sometimes growth is slow and subtle, like the narrow ring formed in a dry season. Sometimes it’s quick and obvious, like the wider ring of a rainy year. But year after year, the rings continue to form.
Artist and poet-philosopher Elizabeth Ridge shares the many rings of her life – the experience of her growth – through the striking words and images of Engraved in the Bark.
Elizabeth Ridge has always loved writing, reading, and art. Her passion for poetry, awakened in a college literature course, has led to a lifetime of expressing her opinions in free verse. Her love of drawing has been lifelong, with a preference for pencil or pastel drawings. She lives in small-town Iowa.
